As we age, many of us will notice a loss in our ability to live independently. A significant contributor to this is sarcopenia (loss of muscle strength), poor balance and worsening flexibility. While the majority believe this is part of ageing, this does not have to be the case.

Our functional health assessment is a one-hour appointment designed to take you through a range of tests which will identify weak points in your anatomy. Our functional health assessment includes:

  • Isokinetic exercises –  Including grip strength testing are associated with numerous health indicators, including mobility, overall upper body strength and physical capability, and the development of weakened bones (osteoporosis). Low grip strength is associated with the quicker degradation of muscle strength in later years, placing your body under further strain.
  • Movement Screen – designed to test your flexibility, this includes 18 different movements commonly performed in daily life.
  • Balance Test – specific testing to identify muscular weakness which may cause falls and injury.

How is a Functional Assessment testing performed?

Our functional assessment begins with an interview with one of our physiologists. They will then take you through a suite of exercises to test your balance, strength and flexibility. They will perform isokinetic muscle testing to compare both sides and identify muscle imbalances and finally they will summarise the consultation and create a plan for the future.

Who is a Functional Assessment for?

This test is especially beneficial for clients concerned about their muscular health, range of motion or balance.
